June 2012 Newsletter

May Reflection

What a busy month of excitement and loads of growth for all our Klahanie students!  We have had a delightful time keeping up with all the physical, cognitive, emotional and social changes for these incredible people we are honored to work with.   The two classes are happily busy in learning about each other and themes we introduce.

Such joy the children shared when we sang parts of a flower ("Head Shoulders, Knees and Toes" rhythm) and solar system introduction using the same song rhythm to introduce the planet rotation around our sun and solar system.  We continue to find amazement and awe in how children show his/her interpretation of these large subjects through the art projects, especially the solar system posters!

Have fun viewing the pictures from our May month together and the interpretations of the same work offered to all and how many children continue to teach one another.  We continue to offer lessons to children either one-on-one or as a group and how they dissect what they observed is a miraculous experience to say the least!  The way these beautiful children hold space, care, awareness of one another is the most endearing of experiences by far.

June Topics
  • Baby mammal animals and what babies we see in North America, particularly Vashon Island! (part of body as well as care of domestic and wild animals)
  • Friends: we have some friends who are venturing to other experiences this summer and upcoming school year so we want to introduce ways to keep in contact and connection with friends.  We will introduce a "class friend box" that children can paint/draw/offer a little object for the friend when they miss him/her.
  • Construction sites: we will have Grandpa Glenn Kellow (Emmy's dad) on school site for the next month finishing our Klahanie Community Building!  Read below......
Special Topic
  • Due to a suprise and amazing school donation, we are able to finish the Klahanie School Community Building!
  • The Klahanie Community building will house Klahanie parent talks/discussions as well as space to facilitate support for families in need who hold a deceased baby or child in the family fabric (norainourfamily.com).  Please call or email Emmy for more information.
  • Most preschools are out in mid-June and we at Klahanie are still rolling!  Welcome summer to you all!
  • 2012-2013 School Year: We have 2 spots remaining for our AM class and 2 spots available for our PM class, please share with friends and ask that they email or call for school information!  We need to fill these spots and thank you for your help!
